This song was collected from Henry Lee, a labourer, and his daughter of Weir Cottages, Whitchurch, Hampshire, noted by George Gardiner and H. Balfour Gardiner during May or June 1906.

The song has been arranged in four parts for SATB voices by Paul Sartin who conducted the choir.

Recorded in the 1803 Theatre, Andover College on 5th July 2018.

The origins of this song are subject to conjecture, the tune was adapted from a Welsh Hymn 'Calon Lan' but the text origin is less clear.  However, the song became a rallying cry for striking miners on both side of the Atlantic, most recently in a revision by Dick Gaughan for the Miners Strike of 1984/5.

Here it is sung in an arrangement by Paul Sartin with verses in 3 parts and a rousing 6 part chorus.

'Love Is All Around' was written by Andover born singer/songwriter Reg Presley, lead singer with The Troggs, it is said to have been inspired by a TV transmission of the Joy Strings 'Love That's All Around'.  The song has been covered by many singers and groups over the years, most famously by Wet, Wet, Wet singer Marti Pellow.  Andover Museum Loft Singers sang this song at the unveiling ceremony of a Blue Plaque tribute to Reg Presley in Andover town centre.

Below are three songs recorded in the Loft Room of Andover Museum.

Mrs Marina Russell of Upwey, Dorset, from whom this tune was collected by the Hammond Brothers, was a Sartin by birth - one of Paul's ancestors.  The Hammonds found a set of words in nearby Halstock, from George Udall, which have been supplemented by ones from Benjamin Arnold of Winchester.

This song has been arranged with a chorus in six parts by Paul Sartin who conducted the choir.

A Week's Work Well Done was collected by G.B.Gardiner and Charles Gamblin from Albert Porter who sang it to them in September 1906 at Basingstoke, Hants, UK.
